Viking horseman, 12th. century

This is replica of viking horseman and was originally part of a chess set, in display at the British Museum, London.
Found in Scotland in 1831, on a sand bank in the Lewis Islands, they were carved out of walrus ivory and whale teeth.
They are believed to have been made in Norway during the 12th century, once the armour and shields seem to be a perfect reproduction of the armour worned at the time, matching the remains of a king`s tomb found in Trondheim.
